How do I lease a bike?
Belgium has a long tradition of offering car mobility to most employees. Updating this tradition to a more sustainable practice meant companies had to find an attractive package for employees to make the switch. That's when bike leasing comes in - as an employee, here's how it works for you:
Zero downside: bike leases usually last between 24 and 36 months. At the end of the lease, you might have the option to buy the bike at a residual value. Or just renew the lease with the same bike, or a new one, or a different one... it's all up to you 🚲
Benefits: All in all, leasing is a better budget solution. By adding up all your monthly payments, and getting the bike for residual value at the end of your contract, you are effectively getting the bike below retail price.
Here's a quick calculation - let's say you take a standard lease on an Ahooga Max (3.499 EUR) for 36 months with a possibility to buy at 15% of value after lease. Your monthly fee will be around 50 EUR. If you buy the bike after your contract, your total spend would be 2.324 EUR, saving you over 1.000 EUR in retail price!
Additionally, in Belgium, employers can provide a tax-free bike allowance (fietsvergoeding) for each kilometer you cycle to work, even if you are leasing a bike through them. This can be combined with the lease.
Insurance: Maintenance and insurance for theft or damage is included in all our leasing deals. Check terms with your emloyer or ask your leasing partner!
Maintenance: If you lease an Ahooga, come to our shop for maintenance. Your lease contract covers the cost, so you can enjoy a relaxing coffee in Avenue Louise while give your bike a scrub. Â
How to get started
1. Request a quote from Ahooga. This step takes about 2 minutes. If you are an employee, get started here. If you are self-employed, then you can click here.
Racks and accesories are included in your quote, so your bike is adapted to your needs from the very start.
2. Send the quote to your leasing partner. It usually takes 5-10 working days for them to approve your request. Find our working partners here.
3. Get your bike! That's it! Â Get the bike delivered at home or collect it at the shop - we have our flagship store in Brussels as well as 50+ retailers across Belgium.
